Careers at Detor

Work with Detor

We are a small team building two products. Detor helps people find and book experiences, workshops and events run by locals. Socials by Detor helps people in a city meet new people at small dinners and events. We are looking for ambitious people who want their work to make a real difference.

  • Flexible ways to work together
  • Flexible hours
  • Work directly with the founder
  • We work in English

What we are building

Both products run on the same platform, so one team works on both.

Detor

Find and book experiences, workshops and events run by people who live in the city. Detor also lists free things to do each week, Detor Originals (experiences we run ourselves) and Trip Genie, which plans a day out for you.

Preparing to launch

Socials by Detor

Helps people who live in a city meet new people. At a Social Table, a small group of people who have not met before share a dinner. We also run events such as speed dating and blind date evenings.

How we work

Ways to work together

Some roles are freelance and some are not. We agree the contract, the hours and the pay with you before you start.

Flexible hours

We agree your hours and goals together. Within that, you can plan your own days. Event roles include some evenings and weekends.

Goals we set together

We set goals together and look at them often, because things change fast at a new company. The founder works closely with you and gives you feedback.

A bigger role as we grow

We are a young company. If you do great work, you can take on more responsibility as we grow, for example leading a team or a new city.

What you get

Paid from the start

We pay you for your work from the first day, including the short trial. We agree the pay with you before you start.

Work from where you are

Many roles can be done from home. Some roles need you at our events in your city.

Free seats at our events

Come to our dinners and events for free, and meet new people in your city.

Learn a lot, fast

You work on a new product with a small team, so you see how every part of a company works.

Grow with us

Your work goes live quickly, so you learn from real results. As Detor grows, you grow with it.

Help open new cities

We are growing to new cities in Europe. You can help us start in one of them.

This is for you if:

Detor is a new company, so there will be challenges. Things change often, not everything is set up yet, and you will often solve a problem for the first time.

It may not be for you if you want fixed tasks and a set plan for every day.

  • You like to build something from the start, even when the plan is not finished yet.
  • You are fine with change. Our plans can move from one week to the next.
  • You can work on your own, and you ask for help when you need it.
  • You like to try an idea, see what works, and try again.
  • You want your work to make a real difference, and you want to see the results.

Marketing

Growth and Marketing Lead

  • Remote, with some evenings at our events

You lead marketing and growth for both products. You decide where our effort goes, try things quickly, and show us what brings people in.

Contract
Agreed with you
Hours
About 20 a week, flexible
Location
Remote, with some evenings at our events
Pay
Based on experience

The role

You are responsible for marketing and growth for both products, and you do much of the work yourself.

You work directly with the founder, and with the people who recruit hosts and run our social media. You plan the social media content for both products together with the Social Media and Content Lead.

What you will do

For both products
  • Write a launch and growth plan: which audiences and channels come first, what the priorities are each week, and how the two products help each other.
  • Set up simple reporting: sign-ups, bookings, seats filled, cost per sign-up and where people came from. Share a short update every week.
  • Test paid campaigns, for example on Meta, TikTok and Google, within agreed budgets, and explain what each one brings.
  • Run our email newsletter and our other own channels.
  • Write clear copy for social media, email, landing pages and app store pages.
  • Brief photographers, designers and creators, and review their work.
  • Agree the content plan with the Social Media and Content Lead, share what the results show, and decide together what to post more or less of.
  • Keep both products looking and sounding the same.
For Detor

Experiences, workshops and events

  • Plan and run the launch of Detor for people who live in a city and people who visit it.
  • Help people find experiences, workshops, events and free things to do, and turn that interest into bookings.
  • Work with the people who recruit hosts on messages, partnerships and campaigns that bring good hosts and event organisers to Detor.
  • Promote Detor Originals and Trip Genie.
  • Build partnerships with local communities, creators and businesses, such as hotels, short-stay apartments and relocation companies.
  • Improve how our city pages and listings show up in search results (SEO).
For Socials by Detor

Social Table, and events for locals and expats

  • Fill our Social Table dinners every week, and help prepare for new cities.
  • Reach people who are new to a city: expats, international students, remote workers and people who have just moved.
  • Build partnerships with expat groups, international employers and HR teams, relocation agencies, universities, coworking spaces, restaurants and bars.
  • Plan themed tables and events for specific groups, for example founders, new parents, dog owners or people who want to date.
  • Grow app downloads and sign-ups, and improve the steps from download to a first booked seat.
  • Work with UGC creators and local influencers, for example by inviting them to a dinner in return for honest content.
  • Collect guest feedback and stories after events, and use them in marketing with the guests’ permission.
  • Help launch new formats such as speed dating and blind date evenings.

What we are looking for

  • Marketing or growth work you delivered yourself, with results you can explain.
  • Good judgement about priorities for a small team with two products.
  • Experience with at least two of these: paid social, email, content and social media, partnerships, community building, events, app growth.
  • You are comfortable with numbers. You can set up tracking, read the results and change course.
  • Strong written English.
  • You are comfortable with small budgets and early products that change often.

Useful but not required

  • Experience with marketplaces, travel, local experiences, events, dating or social apps, or community businesses.
  • A network in expat or international communities.
  • Experience growing an iPhone or Android app.

What success looks like in the first 3 months

  • A clear plan for both products, agreed with the founder, that the team follows week by week.
  • Reporting in place, so we know which channels bring sign-ups, bookings and filled seats, and what each one costs.
  • Social Table dinners filling more steadily, with a few partner communities sending people to us.
  • A launch plan for Detor ready, with the first partnerships agreed.

  • Take photos and film short videos at our dinners and events, with the guests’ permission.
