Booking agreement

Booking Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 15 September 2026 · Applies to Netherlands (EU)

These terms are the agreement between you (the “traveller”) and Detor B.V. (“Detor”, “we”, “us”), when you book an experience through our website. You accept them when you confirm and pay for a booking. They’re written to be read. The summary below is the short version, and each section spells out the detail.

The short version

A friendly summary — the numbered sections below are what legally applies.

  • Free cancellation up to 24 hours before Cancel 24+ hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside 24 hours, the booking is non-refundable.
  • If we or the host cancel, you’re fully refunded Always 100% back, whatever the timing — including if a shared experience doesn’t reach its minimum group size.
  • You only pay for the guests who take a spot Adults and teens pay full price, children (2–12) are half price, and infants (under 2) are free.
  • Secure payment, transparent price You pay securely via Stripe. Prices are in euros and include VAT where it applies; a small service fee is shown before you pay.

1. Who we are & these terms

Detor is run by Detor B.V., a company registered in the Netherlands. Our Chamber of Commerce (KvK) number is 42163696 and our VAT ID is NL869993033B01. Our address is Sonny Rollinsstraat 23, 3543 GR Utrecht, the Netherlands.

Detor is a marketplace and intermediary. We connect you with independent local hosts (“hosts” or “locals”) who create and run the experiences. Unless we clearly state otherwise, the host — not Detor — is the provider of the experience you book. Our role is to power the platform, take payment, and support both sides of the booking.

Detor Originals are different. Detor B.V. creates Detor Originals, sets their price and sells them in its own name. When you book a Detor Original, Detor is the provider of the experience, and a local host runs the session for us. The rest of these terms apply to Detor Originals in the same way, except where a section says otherwise.

These terms apply alongside our Privacy Notice (section 10) and any experience-specific rules a host shows on their listing (for example age limits, fitness level, or what to bring). If a host’s listing rule conflicts with these terms, these terms take priority for the booking relationship, while the host’s rule governs how the experience itself runs.

2. Making a booking

You can book with a Detor account or as a guest (we’ll email your confirmation either way). To make a booking you must:

  • be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract;
  • provide accurate contact details (name, email and phone) so your host can reach you; and
  • make sure everyone in your party meets the experience’s requirements (for example a minimum age, or a valid ID for tastings).

When you confirm, we create your booking and send it to Stripe for payment. Your booking is reserved but not yet confirmed until payment succeeds — an unpaid booking is held for a short window (currently 30 minutes) and then released so others can book the slot.

Shared experiences need a minimum group to run. Some shared experiences only go ahead once a minimum number of guests (currently 3) have booked the same slot. If a slot stays under that minimum, we may cancel it — we’ll give you notice (typically around 36 hours before, with the decision confirmed by about 24 hours before) and refund you in full (see section 5). Private bookings (“whole slot”) aren’t subject to a minimum.

A booking is confirmed only once you receive our confirmation email with a booking reference.

3. Prices, fees & VAT

All prices are shown in euros (EUR). The price you see at checkout is the price you pay — there are no hidden charges.

Who pays what (age bands)

  • Adults (18+) — full price.
  • Teens (13–17) — full price. Some experiences are 18+ only; that’s shown on the listing.
  • Children (2–12) — 50% of the per-person price.
  • Infants (under 2) — free, and they don’t count toward the group size.

Service fee

A Detor service fee (currently 2.5% of the experience subtotal) is added at checkout and itemised in your price breakdown. It helps us run the platform, payments and support. For some cities and experiences the fee may be lower or even 0% — the exact fee for your booking is always shown in the price breakdown before you pay.

VAT

Experiences run by independent hosts. The host sells the experience. If the host is registered for VAT, the experience price includes VAT at the rate that applies to that experience and the place where it happens. If the host is not registered for VAT (for example under the Dutch small-business scheme), no VAT is charged on the experience.

Detor Originals. Detor sells the experience, so the experience price always includes VAT. Detor charges this VAT and pays it to the tax authorities. It does not depend on the VAT status of the host who runs the session.

Service fee. Our own service fee is a separate charge by Detor and includes VAT. In the Netherlands this is currently 21%.

A VAT receipt for your booking is available on request via our Contact page.

4. Payment

Payment is handled by Stripe, our payment provider. You enter your card details on Stripe’s secure checkout — Detor never sees or stores your full card number. Accepted methods (cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and others) depend on your device and country and are shown at checkout.

You can apply an eligible gift card and/or a promo or referral code before paying; any gift-card balance is used first and the remainder is charged to your payment method. The final total, after any discounts, is displayed before you confirm.

If your payment fails or is not completed within the hold window, the reservation is released and you’re welcome to try again. You’re only charged once your booking is confirmed.

5. Cancellations & refunds

The 24-hour rule, in one line: cancel 24 hours or more before the start time and you get a full refund; cancel less than 24 hours before and the booking is non-refundable.

If you cancel

When you cancelRefund
24 hours or more before the start time100% — full refund
Less than 24 hours before the start time0% — non-refundable
No-show (you don’t attend, without cancelling)0% — non-refundable

Timing is measured against the experience’s scheduled start time in local (Amsterdam) time.

If the host or Detor cancels

If a host cancels, or we cancel on their behalf (including when a shared experience doesn’t reach its minimum group size, or for safety, weather or other operational reasons), you receive a full refund of everything you paid, regardless of timing. Where possible we’ll also help you find an alternative date or experience.

How refunds are paid

  • Refunds go back to your original payment method via Stripe.
  • They’re typically completed within 5–10 business days, depending on your bank or card issuer.
  • Any gift-card portion is returned to the gift-card balance; discount and referral codes are re-credited where the code terms allow.
  • The Detor service fee is refunded as part of a full refund.

Your statutory rights

Under EU and Dutch consumer law (Article 6:230p of the Dutch Civil Code, implementing the Consumer Rights Directive), the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply to leisure services provided on a specific date or period — which is what most experiences are. This means the cancellation terms above apply instead of a 14-day cool-off. Nothing here removes rights you have by law that cannot be excluded.

6. Changes & rescheduling

Need a different date or time? You can ask to reschedule from your booking, and we’ll pass the request to your host. Rescheduling depends on availability and the host’s agreement and is normally only possible outside the 24-hour window. If a suitable alternative can’t be found, the cancellation terms in section 5 apply.

Occasionally a host may need to make a minor change (for example the meeting point or start time). We’ll let you know as soon as we can. If a change is significant and doesn’t work for you, you can cancel that booking for a full refund.

For a Detor Original, the local host who runs your session can change before the day. Your booking, your price and your start time stay the same.

7. On the day, conduct & safety

  • Arrive on time at the meeting point shown in your confirmation. Late arrivals may miss part or all of the experience without a refund.
  • Check-in may use your device location to confirm you’re at the meeting point, within a short window around the start time. Location is used only to verify attendance.
  • Follow reasonable instructions from your host and any safety guidance. Hosts can decline to continue with anyone who is unsafe, abusive, or significantly under the influence — no refund is due in that case.
  • You’re responsible for your party, including any children and their supervision, and for making sure everyone meets the listing’s requirements.
  • Tell us about accessibility needs in advance so we and the host can help where possible.

Experiences involve real-world activities and some carry inherent risks. Take part sensibly and within your own abilities, and make sure you have appropriate personal insurance for activities such as cycling, water or outdoor experiences.

8. Gift cards, promo & referral codes

  • Gift cards are valid for 12 months from purchase, are redeemable against bookings, and are non-refundable and non-exchangeable for cash except where the law requires.
  • Promo codes may stack unless a code says otherwise, and each is subject to its own conditions (minimum spend, eligible experiences, expiry).
  • Referral codes — one referral applies per booking. The referred traveller gets the stated discount, and the referrer earns their reward once the referred booking is completed, subject to the referral terms.
  • We may withhold or reverse discounts obtained through misuse, fraud, or by circumventing a code’s conditions.

9. Our role & liability

Detor provides the platform and facilitates your booking as an intermediary. The experience itself is delivered by an independent host, who is responsible for running it safely, lawfully and as described.

For a Detor Original, Detor is the provider of the experience and is responsible to you for it, including for the local host who runs the session for us.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Detor is not liable for the acts or omissions of hosts (except the hosts who run a Detor Original for us) or other travellers, and our total liability to you in connection with a booking is limited to the amount you paid for that booking. We don’t exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited under Dutch law. This doesn’t affect your mandatory statutory consumer rights.

10. Privacy & your data (GDPR)

Detor B.V. is the data controller for the personal data you provide when booking. We process it under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Dutch GDPR Implementation Act (UAVG). This section is the booking-focused summary — the full Privacy & Cookie Policy covers everything, including host data and cookies.

What we use, and why

  • To perform your booking (our contract with you): your name, email, phone, party details and booking history. We share the details your host needs to host you (such as your name and a contact method).
  • To take payment (contract / legal obligation): payment is processed by Stripe; we keep booking and invoice records to meet Dutch tax and accounting law.
  • To run and improve the service (legitimate interests): security, fraud prevention, support and analytics.
  • Marketing (consent): newsletters and offers only if you opt in — you can unsubscribe at any time.

Who we share it with

Your host (for the booking), and trusted processors acting on our instructions — for example Stripe (payments), our email provider (confirmations and receipts), and hosting/infrastructure providers. Where data is processed outside the EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep it

We keep booking and financial records for as long as the law requires (in the Netherlands, generally 7 years for invoices and tax records) and other data no longer than necessary for the purposes above.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete or export your data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, contact us (section 12). You also have the right to complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).

11. Complaints, disputes & governing law

If something goes wrong, please contact us first (section 12) — most issues are resolved quickly. We aim to acknowledge complaints promptly and resolve them fairly.

As an EU consumer you can also use the European Commission’s Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.

These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Disputes will be submitted to the competent court in Amsterdam, unless mandatory consumer law lets you bring a claim in the courts of your own place of residence.

We may update these terms from time to time (for example to reflect changes in the service or the law). The version that applies to your booking is the one in force when you confirmed it, and we’ll show the “last updated” date at the top of this page.
