About Detor

What Detor is, where it runs, and what a Social Table is.

What is Detor?

Detor is a one-stop app for a city: experiences, workshops, ticketed events and free things to do, all run by locals, plus Detor Social Table. It is for visitors and for people who live there.

Where is Detor available?

Social Table runs in Amsterdam now. Experiences open in Amsterdam and Paris first.

What is a Detor Social Table?

Six people who haven’t met share a table: coffee, brunch, dinner, wine or drinks. We choose who sits together and book the place, and the venue is revealed 24 hours before. It is not a dating app: no photos, no swiping.

Bookings & tickets

Booking, confirmations, guests, changes and cancellations.

How do I book an experience?

Browse or search, open a listing, pick a date and time, choose how many guests are coming, then Confirm and pay. You can check out as a guest or while signed in.

Where do I find my booking confirmation and reference?

After payment we email a confirmation with a booking reference. You can reopen it any time from that email, or by opening it with your booking reference.

Can I view a booking without an account?

Yes. Use View & manage your booking and enter your booking reference and the email you booked with. No sign-in needed.

Can I book without creating an account?

Yes, guest checkout is available and we email your confirmation. Creating an account keeps all your bookings and messages in one place.

How does guest count and age-band pricing work?

Adults (18+) and teens (13–17) pay full price, children (2–12) are half price, and infants (under 2) are free and don’t count toward the group size. Some experiences are 18+ only, and the listing says so.

What’s the difference between shared and private experiences?

A shared experience brings together guests from different bookings, so you may meet other travellers. A private ("whole slot") booking is just your own group.

Why does a shared experience need a minimum number of guests?

Some shared experiences only run once a minimum group (currently 3) has booked the same slot. If a slot stays under the minimum we may cancel it and refund you in full, usually with notice around 36 hours before.

How do I change the date or reschedule?

Ask to reschedule from your booking and we’ll pass the request to your host. It depends on availability and the host’s agreement, and is normally only possible outside the 24-hour window.

How do I cancel a booking?

Open your booking and choose to cancel. Cancel 24 hours or more before the start time for a full refund; less than 24 hours before, the booking is non-refundable.

I didn’t get my confirmation email. What should I do?

Check your spam folder and confirm the email address you used. You can also open your booking by reference via View & manage your booking. Still stuck? Contact us.

How long is my slot held before I pay?

A reserved-but-unpaid booking is held for a short window (currently 30 minutes) and then released so others can book the slot. You’re only charged once your booking is confirmed.

Can I book for someone else?

Yes. Add their details as the guest at checkout, or send a gift card so they can book whatever they like.

Payments & refunds

Payment methods, fees, VAT, receipts and how refunds work.

What payment methods can I use?

Payment is handled by Stripe: cards plus wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay, depending on your device and country. The available options are shown at checkout.

Is my payment secure?

Yes. You enter your card details on Stripe’s secure checkout. Detor never sees or stores your full card number.

When am I charged?

Only once your booking is confirmed. If payment isn’t completed within the hold window, the reservation is released and you can try again.

What is the service fee?

A Detor service fee (currently 2.5% of the experience subtotal) is added at checkout and itemised in your price breakdown. It helps us run the platform, payments and support. For some cities and experiences the fee may be lower or even 0%. You always see the exact fee before you pay.

Are prices inclusive of VAT?

Prices are in euros and include VAT where the host is VAT-registered; some hosts aren’t VAT-registered, so no VAT is charged on the experience. Our own service fee includes Dutch VAT.

How and when do refunds arrive?

Refunds go back to your original payment method via Stripe, typically within 5–10 business days depending on your bank. Any gift-card portion returns to the gift-card balance.

What if the host or Detor cancels?

You receive a full refund of everything you paid, regardless of timing, including if a shared experience doesn’t reach its minimum group size. We’ll also help you find an alternative where we can.

How do I get a VAT receipt or invoice?

Request one via our Contact page with your booking reference and we’ll email it to you.

My payment failed. What now?

The reservation is released and you’re welcome to try again. You’re only charged once your booking is confirmed, so a failed attempt doesn’t take a slot.

I was charged but didn’t get a booking.

This is rare. Contact us with the email you used or the reference and we’ll track the payment down and put it right.

Gift cards & referrals

Gift cards, promo codes, referrals and account credit.

How do I redeem a gift card?

Enter your gift-card code in the gift-card field at checkout. The balance is applied first and any remainder is charged to your payment method.

How do I buy a gift card?

Choose an amount on the Gift cards page and send it by email. It’s a good option when you’re not sure which experience someone would like.

Do gift cards expire?

Gift cards are valid for 12 months from purchase and are redeemable against bookings. They’re non-refundable and can’t be exchanged for cash except where the law requires.

How do I use a promo code?

Add it in the promo/referral field at checkout before you pay. Codes may stack unless a code says otherwise, and each is subject to its own conditions (minimum spend, eligible experiences, expiry).

How do referrals work?

Share your referral code: the person you refer gets a discount on their booking, and you earn a reward once their booking is completed.

Where do I find my referral code and rewards?

In your account once you’re signed in. That’s also where any earned rewards appear.

Can I combine a gift card and a promo code?

Yes. You can apply an eligible gift card and a promo or referral code together. The gift-card balance is used first, and the remainder (after any discount) is charged to your card.

My code isn’t working.

Check the spelling, the expiry, and any minimum spend or eligibility. Some codes don’t apply to every experience. If it still won’t apply, contact us.

Your account

Sign-up, passwords, email, your profile and privacy.

How do I create an account?

Sign up with your email address. You can also check out as a guest first and create an account later with the same email.

I forgot my password.

Use Forgot password and we’ll email you a secure link to set a new one.

How do I change my password?

From your account settings once you’re signed in. You’ll confirm your current password and set a new one.

I was given a temporary password.

For security you’ll be asked to set your own password the first time you sign in with a temporary one.

How do I verify my email?

Open the verification link in the email we send you. If it’s expired, you can request a fresh one.

How do I update my name or profile?

In your account you can set your first name, last name and a preferred name. The preferred name is what hosts and guests see.

What’s the difference between Guest mode and Host mode?

One login covers both. If you’re a host, you can switch between Guest mode and Host mode from the account menu. Host mode shows your hosting tools while keeping the same account.

How do I manage messages and notifications?

Your messages and notifications live in your account area when you’re signed in.

How do I delete my account or my data?

Contact us to request deletion or a copy of your data. Some booking and invoice records are kept for as long as the law requires (generally 7 years for invoices in the Netherlands).

How do I unsubscribe from the newsletter?

Use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any newsletter email. It takes effect immediately.

Hosting

Becoming a host, listings, approval, payouts and categories.

How do I become a host?

Start from Become a host, tell us about the experience you’d offer, and our team reviews it before it goes live. When you apply you accept the Host Terms and commit to the Host Standards & Safety.

I want to host food tours or tastings. What rules apply?

Food experiences must follow EU food-hygiene practice (HACCP), you must be able to tell guests which of the 14 regulated allergens are in what you serve, regular food activity may require free registration with the NVWA, and alcohol is strictly 18+ with ID checks.

What do I need to start hosting?

An idea for an experience, some availability, and the basics guests need: a meeting point, what’s included, and any requirements. We review new hosts before publishing.

How do I create or edit an experience?

In Host mode, use your host dashboard to add a new experience or edit an existing one: details, photos, pricing and availability.

How does approval work?

New hosts and new listings are reviewed by our team before they’re published, to keep quality and safety high across the platform.

How do payouts and commission work?

You’re paid for completed bookings, and Detor keeps a commission that’s shown in your host dashboard so your earnings are always clear. Payouts go to your registered bank account on a regular payout run.

Can I suggest a new category?

Yes. You can suggest a category from your host tools, and our team reviews suggestions before adding them.

How do I switch to Host mode?

Once you’re an approved host, switch between Guest mode and Host mode from the account menu. No separate login is required.

How do I sign in as a host?

Use the same login as everyone else and choose to continue as a host to land in your hosting area.

Safety & policies

Trust & safety, terms, your data and reporting problems.

How does Detor keep me safe?

Hosts and listings are reviewed before they go live, payments run through Stripe, and our team is here if something goes wrong.

What are the booking terms?

Our booking terms cover bookings, prices, payments, cancellations, refunds, conduct and more, written in plain language for the Netherlands (EU).

How is my personal data handled?

Detor is the data controller and processes your data under the GDPR. We only share what your host needs to host you, and you can access, correct, export or delete your data.

How does check-in work?

Some experiences confirm attendance using your device location within a short window around the start time. Location is used only to verify you’re at the meeting point.

How do I report a problem or a host?

Contact us with your booking reference and what happened, and we’ll look into it. Most issues are resolved quickly.

What is Detor’s role?

It depends on what you book. For most experiences, an independent local host creates and runs the experience, and Detor runs the platform, takes payment and supports both sides. Detor Originals and Detor Social Tables are organised by Detor itself, so for those Detor is responsible to you.

I have accessibility needs. Can you help?

Tell us and your host in advance and we’ll help where we can so you can take part comfortably.

Still need help?

Can’t find your answer? Send us a message and we’ll get back to you by email, usually within a day. Already booked? You can check your booking any time.
