Trust & Safety

Your safety, at every step of the trip.

Detor connects travellers with real locals. Meeting new people is the whole point, and it should always feel safe. Here’s how we protect both sides of every booking, in plain language.

How it works

Safety is built in, not bolted on

Four things we do for every single booking — so trust isn’t something you have to think about.

Verified locals

Hosts confirm their identity and are human-reviewed before they can list. A badge shows you who’s verified.

Secure payments

You pay through Stripe, so we never see your card. The host is only paid after your trip actually happens.

Real & on-platform

Keep chat and payments on Detor. Reviews come only from completed bookings, so what you read is honest.

On-trip safety

Check in, add an emergency contact, and raise an SOS from your booking. Our team reviews every report.

Safety tools, one tap away

Every confirmed booking comes with these — right where you’ll need them.

Check in & out

Let us know you’ve arrived and finished safely, straight from your booking.

SOS

One tap alerts your emergency contact with your location, so they can escalate for you — and the Detor safety desk at the same time.

Emergency contact

The person we alert on your behalf when you raise an SOS — someone who knows you and can escalate straight away, without waiting on us.

Community standards

Everyone on Detor — travellers and locals alike — agrees to treat each other with respect. In short: be honest, be kind, and keep each other safe.

What we expect

  • Treat people with courtesy, whatever their background, gender, religion or nationality.
  • Be accurate — real photos, real experiences, honest descriptions.
  • Show up, communicate, and respect each other’s time and boundaries.
  • Follow local laws and the reasonable house rules of an experience.

What’s not allowed

  • Harassment, discrimination, threats or violence of any kind.
  • Fraud, fake listings, or taking payment or contact off-platform to dodge protections.
  • Illegal activity, or putting anyone’s safety at risk.
  • Sharing someone else’s private information without their consent.

Breaking these standards can lead to a warning, a booking or hosting restriction, or a permanent ban — depending on how serious it is.

Tips for travellers

  • Read the host’s profile and reviews, and ask questions in chat before you book.
  • Keep bookings, payments and messages on Detor — never pay by bank transfer or cash "to save fees".
  • Add an emergency contact and check in when you meet your host.
  • Share your plans with a friend, and trust your instincts — you can leave any time you feel uncomfortable.
  • Meet in the agreed public spot to start, and keep your valuables close.

Tips for locals

  • Describe your experience honestly, including anything physical, weather-dependent or age-related.
  • Confirm the meeting point and what to bring through on-platform chat.
  • Know your guest count and keep group sizes to what you can host safely.
  • Have a plan for weather, transport and accessibility, and carry a charged phone.
  • If a guest makes you uncomfortable, you can decline — your safety comes first.

In an emergency

112
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 112.

112 is the free emergency number for police, ambulance and fire across the EU — it works in every country Detor operates in.

  • 112 Police, ambulance or fire — emergencies.
  • 0900-8844 Police, for non-emergencies.
  • Embassy Your embassy or consulate can help if you’ve lost documents or need assistance abroad.

Once you’re safe, please report the incident to us so we can act on it and protect others.

Report a concern

Something feel off? Tell us. Whether it’s a message, a booking or someone’s behaviour, our Trust & Safety team reviews every report and follows up by email.

This form isn’t monitored in real time. If someone is in immediate danger, call 112 first.
